So has anyone tried this after the update, because if it doesn't work anymore, my favorite solo build is gone.

I haven't tried it since the update, but I can imagine it would be hard to kill groups of 3+ grasps (glads makes em flee) and even harder to kill groups of 3+ smites (glads makes em flee again).
against single aatxes it's still possible (he wont flee) from what i've seen how other enemies react to glads.

With the original W/N build, you could occasionally run into problems with the larger groups of smites (taking too much damage). The change really just means that you won't have any fear of dying.
But really, not much of an impact on the run at all, aatxes are still just as dumb.

Red Rooster X has been able to solo the Spawning Pools, Twin Head Mountains (I don't think he soloed the Charged Blacknesses though), Some of the Bone pits and some of the Chaos plains. His build is modded I believe.

So i went down again just a few min ago, (since the 10 AL sword is gone i used a barbed sword 33% longer bleeding, which is nice against aatxe's with deadly riposte) but OMG they didn't seem to bodyblock each other!
I got the first single patrolling aatxe down just as normal but when i tried to take down the group with 2 aatxe's at the right stairs, i stood at the same place as normal but they were BOTH attacking me! I tried 2 times (don't want to spoil my money on it) but both the times they were attacking me at the same time without bodyblocking each other!
I dunno if this was a sneaky update and that you ppl experience the same, or the fact that I wasn't standing in a right way?

hey, first off this build pwns.
i have some questions however.
what mods would u suggest to optimize each run?
i.e. should i use barbed on my sword? i was thinking that the 33% wont work sometimes cause ill be switching back to my wand
im guessing that + AL and barbed are the best tho.
are there any greens i could use instead of making my own sword? (i dont feel like buying all the mods :P )
i noticed that u use a dif sword to fight the smites than u do to tank the attxes. which sword do u use to fight the smites?
anyways, thanks in advance.

You can only use Deadly Riposte or Desperation Blow when you have the sword out so the bleeding is best. And against everything, +5 defense.

Heard about that... gonna have to give it a whirl again.
Edit: Okay, wow was I out of practice (and the lag didn't help). This has become very difficult as the aatxe are allowed to stand on top of each other. But... it is still doable but hardly worth the effort and time it now takes. Well, if you're in it just for that drops that is, as the challenge is a lot steeper. What I thought was the original problem I heard about was that they simply made them smarter so they'd walk around each other. Hardly the case.
I don't believe it is possible to do the first quest anymore, even with the W/E build because of this change that allows the enemies to stack on top of one another. The only reason you are able to clear the chamber + path to the smites is because of the NPCs. As much as I hate abusing them to make this work, I don't believe that two aatxe should be able literally occupy the same space. They were able to attack in unison, use their skills in unison... it's a joke.
As such, group to the left... you use the two ghosts standing there to block the aatxe. Once you aggro, run inbetween them and hug the wall of the left ghost. The two aatxe will go to the side, and just stand there making no attempts to walk around. Now what you have to do is carefully strafe to the right and watch very closely for the animation of Deadly Riposte (you should be familiar with it if you're even trying this). At which point, Deadly Riposte and enter your sequence of attacks. Once one drops, heal up and proceed to move into the other aatxe's range. In the event that they are overlapping each other, it will suck. Break aggro (run to the right and back) to force them back to their positions and try again.
The center group and right group are more of a problem, it took me several minutes just to position them correctly on the lost soul (see attached). Not to mention that you basically have 11 seconds tops to get it right (on the group behind the door) or you're dead. I wasn't able to reach the smites as such on my attempt, as I was trying to find the "sweet spot" to stand by the Lost Soul so you could get it right every time. Alas, 75% chance to block is asking too much apparently. More often then not, they will stack on each other.
Another problem is when you're pulling them they hardly stand in a straight line. They will spread out, and then move in from either side. This makes getting them both perfectly angled to get caught on the ghost a lot harder. It might be more wise to try using one of the candles so the angle is narrower plus one of the aatxe has to try and overcome the soul + candle. Two objects that might get it stuck.
As far as the graspings on concerned... don't aggro them all. Just take one group at a time, you might as well since more than half run from Gladiator's.
So in a nutshell... it will take a lot more testing to tweak this new strategy.

which build is more profitable now? Your W/N - W/E build or my W/Rit build? My build can't take the Dryders and the Aatxes though..

It was profitable when you could get upwards of 4 ecto at 15k each. Now it's strictly about the challenge with the recent change.

Little note:
Armour of Earth
+Dolyak Signet
+Watch Yourself
+Spear of Shelter (+7, the /bonus Fiery Sunspear works very nicely)
+Gladiator's armour
+Other essential warrior equipment (max shield, runes)
= Enough to tank 2 aatxe.
However, you must understand the weapon swapping process: Trigger Riposte, swap to a spear/shield combo. You need to time your Bonetti's with Dolyak Signet, along with Watch Yourself and Armour of Earth to ensure the large armour boost at all times. If you're feeling really gutsy, time your Deadly Ripostes to keep one aatxe bleeding at all times to drop it faster (then proceed to kill the remaining one). If not, I would grab a crippling mod for the sword used to trigger Deadly Riposte.
